Eczema is a non-infectious skin disease caused by a number of factors. It is commonly associated with allergies, but there are other conditions which it is connected with as well. It is also well known as one of the hard-to-treat illnesses to the conventional medicine – all they do with it is trying to ease the itching and hydrate the skin. What does eczema look like? Here are the eczema skin symptoms:

Redness of skin - Skin is in inflammation. It is red and can be warmer than surrounding healthy skin. Color varies from light red (strong pink) to warm red (flame red)

Blisters or bumps on skin - Blisters are usually small in diameter, sometimes filled with liquid or with pus. If scratched they tend to ooze or bleed. When the skin heals, it thickens and can radiate a leathery appearance at spots where the eczema reaction occurs.

Scratching injuries - After repeated scratching, skin loses its elasticity and becomes hard. Crusts are forming on areas where blister used to be. Skin has deep red coloration.

Lines - Lines are forming as a result of chronic inflammation and diffuse thickening of the epidermis. Skin tends to be brownish in color and hard on touch.

There are 4 major groups of causes:

Allergens
Irritants
Stress
Family history

Food allergens are the most common cause of eczema. Virtually any type of food can trigger eczema and it varies from person to person. Read in more details on Which Foods Cause Eczema.
Apart from food, there are other allergens - feathers, dust, pet hair, grass, pollen, cosmetics, washing powder, shampoos. These can all be the triggers.

Irritants are various external (or extrinsic) factors. They can be all from weather conditions, such as warm and humid weather or cold and dry weather, to air conditioning, wool in clothes, all kinds of chemicals and paints.

Emotional stress is also found to be a contributing factor that can trigger eczema. Unfortunately, nowadays stress is to blame for the whole of spectrum of diseases and the only way to get around that is to learn how to calm down and relax. Easier said than done, I know.

Family history - if one or both parents have or have had such conditions as asthma, hay fever, or any other allergy, eczema included, it is more likely that one of these will occur sooner or later in life.

It is very important to know that modern medicine has no appropriate treatment for eczema. The whole thing boils down to over-the counter products, which are Steroids, such as Hydrocortisone, Cortisone 10, Cortaid or Calamine Lotion. You should know that they actually do more damage to your skin than good. Layers of the skin are getting thinner, the skin ages more rapidly (e.g. wrinkles appear before their time), blood vessels in the skin dilate and your immune system weakens.

With that in mind, you should also know that there IS cure for eczema, and I know that comes as a surprise to you, because you have been listening the opposite the whole of your life.
